Oct 30, Colombo: Former Sri Lankan cricket captain and Kalutara district parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga says that the Buddhist monks can help salvage the country from destruction.
Speaking at a public event in Beruwala, Ranatunga noted that the government is trying to create a miracle out of the country by destroying it.
Referring to the recent move to pass legislation to set up gaming centers in Colombo, the MP observed that casinos would bring about the destruction of the country.
He added that the government's move to withdraw the proposed legislation is a temporary move that needs to be completely defeated by the people and the clergy.
According to Ranatunga, there has been an increase in crimes in the country, which is an unfortunate situation that must be addressed.
He further noted that the destruction of morals and culture would not help establish the government's proposed 'miracle.'
