Oct 29, Colombo: Opposition political parties in Sri Lanka plan to organize protest campaigns during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Colombo next month.
Leader of the Nava Sama Samaja Party, Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne has said that the joint opposition will hold a series of agitation campaigns during CHOGM.
He said the joint opposition protests are aimed at showing the real situation in the country to the world leaders who will attend the summit.
He added that it is important for people in India to know the issues faced by the people in their neighboring country, especially the government's suppression and racism.
The joint opposition has organized a candlelight vigil in memory of those who have gone missing and a procession has been organized towards Independent Square on November 14th evening as part of the agitation against the government's suppression.
Dr. Karunaratne has added that security plan in place for CHOGM would not have an impact on the joint opposition protests.
