Oct 28, Colombo: Chief Minister of Sri Lanka's Northern Provincial Council, C.V. Vigneswaran has rejected the call by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Colombo next month.
The TNA has decided to boycott the CHOGM summit and has also called on the Indian government to boycott the event.
TNA MP Mavai Senathirajah has said that his party boycotting the event is not intended as a protest against the participating nations and the party expects to meet the CHOGM attendees.
However, Vigneswaran during a meeting with TNA councilors in the Northern Provincial Council have rejected the TNA's call for the boycott.
The Northern Provincial Council held its inaugural sessions last week and the next session is due on November 11th.
Vigneswaran has reportedly set the sessions for the 11th in order to be free to attend the CHOGM that is to commence on the 15th.
The first ever Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council earlier asked the Indian leaders not to boycott the event and attend the CHOGM to express their concerns over the Tamil cause and other issues.
