Oct 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka Government Nursing Officers' Association (GNOA) charged the Ministry of Health for plotting with a trade union to recruit the newly passed out nursing students to the union.
Chairman of the GNOA Saman Rathnapriya said that the Ministry of Health officials have assisted the Public Services United Nurses' Union (PSUNU) led by Ven. Muruttettuwe Ananda Thero to summon the students of the nursing training schools to their headquarters for a seminar and force them to get the membership.
GNOA charged that the passed out nursing students were summoned to the PSUNU headquarters from October 21 to 25 for seminars addressed by Ministry officials.
Some students who rejected to get the membership were forced to do so, GNOA accused.
GNOA is to participate in a token strike based on a number of demands on November 01. PSUNU has rejected to participate in the strike.
