Oct 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka ruling party ally, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has vowed to continue to oppose any move by the government to set up casinos in the country.
General Secretary of the JHU, Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has called on the government not to make Sri Lanka a casino and heroin hub.
He has said that the government was veering away from the initial concept of ways to propagate discipline in the country and was instead turning towards anti-Buddhist and anti-social forms of development.
He has explained that despite the President's decision to hold back the legislation on setting up casinos in the country, some powerful government officials were continuing with their agenda to push for casinos.
According to Ranawaka, apart from party affiliations, everyone need to get together to fight against any move by the government to set up casinos in the country.
He has added that while there were 14 casinos in the country some time back, the number has now reduced to four.
