Oct 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Health is mulling plans to export the locally produced surgical gauze since the country has an excess production of gauze, the Ministry says.
The country produces surgical gauze needed for the island wide hospitals and the supply has exceeded the demand.
The Ministry sources say that the discussions are under way with the Maldivian Ministry of Health to export the excess production to that country.
The Ministry is also looking for other markets as well to export gauze, sources say.
In March this year, Ministry of Economic Development and Liya Abhiman organization assisted to commence the production of gauze and other clothing materials in Sri Lanka aiming to save foreign exchange.
Hand machines and electrically operated small machines needed for the production of gauze were distributed to households to start cottage industries.
