Oct 21, Colombo: A governing party head in one of Sri Lanka's local government bodies has been arrested for allegedly assaulting several private bus employees.
Chairman of the Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha, Jagath Samantha had allegedly assaulted three employees attached to a private bus operating on the Chilaw -Colombo and Puttalam - Colombo routes.
Samantha surrendered to the Marawila police through his lawyer and was presented before court.
The Marawila Magistrate remanded the suspect until November 4th.
The injured private bus employees have been admitted to the Marawila Hospital.
Private bus operators on the Chilaw-Colombo, Puttalam-Colombo and Anamaduwa-Colombo routes suspended bus services until the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman was arrested.
