Oct 21, Colombo: The new expressway linking Sri Lanka's main international airport in Katunayake to Colombo will be open for three days from tomorrow for public view.
The government has decided to open the country's second expressway to public view, religious observations and entertainment ahead of its ceremonial opening on October 27.
Accordingly, the public will have access to the Colombo - Katunayake Expressway (CKE) from October 22 to 24. However, vehicles are not allowed and the people can walk freely on the toll road ahead of its formal opening.
The Road development Authority has organized a walk on the expressway on October 24. The walk will start from the Peliyagoda main interchange of the expressway.
A number of religious, cultural and entertainment activities including competitions of flying kites have been organized by the Katunayake, Seeduwa and Ja-Ela urban councils.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will declare open the toll road on October 27.
The 26 kilometer scenic expressway passes through the open land of Muthurajawela marshes and the Negombo lagoon.
