Oct 18, Colombo: A students' union in Sri Lanka says that university authorities have not yet called for registrations for external degrees in state universities.
The Student Union for the Protection of External Degrees has said that registrations for external degrees from students who sat for the Advanced Level examinations in 2010 have not yet been called.
Convener of the Union, Madusanka Bandara has noted that the external degree programme in the state universities has faced several setbacks in the past few years.
He has said that many students have been unable to register to follow degrees of their choice since 2010.
According to Bandara, the authorities have said the external degree programme is still continuing, but no new intakes have been taken.
The Union has also questioned whether the delay in calling for registrations for external degrees is due to the government's move to push for a Private Universities Bill.
