Oct 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) says that in usual fashion, the government is ignoring the problems faced by the people using next month's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) as an excuse.
UNP Spokesperson, parliamentarian Gayantha Karunathilaka said the government is now using the CHOGM to divert people's attention from their problems.
He noted that the government did not have a clear plan to address the issues faced by the people.
"People continue to suffer due to the high cost of living. It is now clear that the government is unable to provide solutions to the problems faced by the people," Karunathilaka said.
According to the UNP MP, the government is trying to use CHOGM to hide from the protests in the country and from within the governing party.
