Oct 17, Colombo: The movement in Rathupaswala in Gampaha district of Sri Lanka that demanded clean drinking water for the villagers is facing an internal clash over the agreement signed between a few members of the organization and the controversial factory.
Convener of the Siyane Jalaya Surakeeme Jana Neguma organization, Pramitha Hettiarachchi has told the media that its patron Ven. Theripaha Siridhamma Thero has been asked to resign from the post.
Another member of the organization, Sampath Samarakoon, who was a signatory to the agreement along with Ven. Siridhamma Thero, has said the agreement was signed due to a request made by the Gampaha Superintendent of Police.
However, the Thero has said the Rathupaswala incident has been resolved, but the people were turning it into a chaotic situation.
The agreement the Hayleys Group owned glove making factory reached with the Rathupaswala residents has allowed the factory to temporarily carry out its production work for a period of six months until it is relocated.
