Oct 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka police have launched an operation to arrest Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe's private secretary Sudath Chandrasekera who is a suspect of the clash in Matara.
The police following a court order from the Matara Magistrate are seeking to arrest Chandrasekera over his alleged involvement in the clash in Matara last week.
The police are reportedly also seeking to arrest former Western Provincial Council Opposition Leader, Kithsiri Kahatapitiya over the Matara clash as well.
Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said five special police teams are looking for several United National Party (UNP) members including Chandrasekera and Kahatapitiya.
The UNP has accused the government and the police of engaging in a witch hunt against party members.
