Oct 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran notes the importance of unity between Tamils and Muslims in the Northern Province and calls for the Muslims and Tamils to join hands.
He has made this comment after attending a prayer at a mosque organized by the Muslims in the North.
Wigneswaran has said that it is time now to cast aside religious differences and to make the people live together in harmony.
He added that he was keen to work with the Muslims noting that the TNA had appointed a Muslim to the People's Movement for Good Governance to address issues faced by the Muslims.
However, Sinhala nationalists say the Chief Minister is trying to join hands with the Muslims with the intention to create a separate state merging the Northern and Eastern provinces.
