Oct 16, Colombo: Senior leaders of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) have agreed to discuss proposals on party reforms further.
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and UNP MPs Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa held discussions yesterday evening.
Wickremasinghe explained the proposed leadership council and its functions during the meeting.
One of the key proposals is to appoint Jayasuriya as the head of the leadership council and for Premadasa to also play a key role in the council while Wickremasinghe would function as the Opposition Leader and the senior leader of the UNP.
However, Premadasa has said that there would be further discussion on the proposals presented by Wickremasinghe and the United Bhikku Front.
Premadasa said that there would be another discussion on the proposals and the UNP Working Committee will make the final decision.
