Oct 13, Colombo: The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), working towards ensuring hygiene, quality and safety in food and water in the capital city, has tasked the Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) to inspect star class hotels, restaurants and cafes in the city.
CMC Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam has said that apart from hotel kitchens, plants and gardens will also be inspected by the PHIs.
He added that the freezers and storage rooms attached to kitchens and rooms will be checked for disease control.
According to Dr. Kariyawasam, laboratory tests will be conducted to test the quality of drinking water.
The CMC has also arranged for the PHIs to check workers' health records and hygiene as well as garbage disposal by November.
Dr. Kariyawasam said that all these measures are taken to ensure the safety of the delegates arriving for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next month.
