Oct 13, Colombo: Senior leaders of Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party (UNP) will meet next week to discuss the formation of the leadership council proposed to find solutions to the leadership crisis through dialogue.
Accordingly, former Deputy Leaders Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa will meet the UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe on Tuesday (October 15) at the party headquarters, Sirikotha.
Wickremasinghe invited the two senior members of the party for the discussion with the blessings of the Working Committee to discuss the UNP Working Committee proposal to appoint a leadership council to resolve the party crisis.
The UNP Working Committee last week decided to set up a leadership council chaired by Jayasuriya to decide on future directions.
The discussions will focus on the structure of the leadership council and the way the powers are shared.
UNP leader is under pressure to step down following the recent defeats at the Northern, Northwestern and Central Provincial Council elections.
