Oct 12, Colombo: Three Indian fishermen from Vellapallam in Tamil Nadu state of India have been injured when Sri Lankan fishermen allegedly attacked them Saturday, Indian officials said.
The Tamil Nadu fishermen have claimed that they were fishing in the Indian waters off Kodikkarai when they were allegedly attacked by the Sri Lankan fishermen with sickles and clubs, Indian news agency PTI reported.
The injured fishermen have been admitted to the government hospital.
Sri Lankan fishermen accuse the Indian fishermen of poaching in Sri Lankan waters and stealing their livelihood.
Indian fishermen constantly allege that they are attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy when they are fishing near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). The Navy says fishermen knowingly enter into the Sri Lankan waters to poach.
