Oct 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera says there's a conspiracy to conceal the truth behind the clash that took place in Matara last week.
Explaining that UNP members who were not involved in last week's Matara clashes have been arrested by the police, the MP accused the police of being biased in investigating the Matara clash.
"The police are acting in a biased manner in the investigations. The persons who went to make statements to the police have been arrested," Samaraweera said.
He observed that investigators have ignored the photographic evidence when arresting the culprits.
"I admit that my supporters attacked the protestors at Matara. It happened because my supporters were first attacked while they were carrying out a peaceful walk. Matara people are never known to turn back or run away. My supporters were only reacting to being attacked by the protestors," he has added.
According to Samaraweera, there's a conspiracy to conceal the truth behind the Matara clash and it was being done by the state media and some private media and even in parliament.
