Oct 12, Colombo: A trade union affiliated to Sri Lanka's education sector has accused the Education Minister of taking arbitrary decisions.
The Ceylon Teachers' Union (CTU) said that Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena has made arbitrary decisions with regard to the manner in which the results of the Grade 5 scholarship examination were released.
CTU General Secretary, Joseph Stalin said that the arbitrary decision taken by Gunawardena was revealed during a discussion with the National Education Commission and the Department of Examinations and the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka on issues faced by the country's education sector.
According to Stalin, Gunawardena had not consulted with the relevant education authorities when directing the release of Grade 5 scholarship examination results.
He has added that the government should decide on taking action against Gunawardena for making arbitrary decisions.
