Oct 09, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today declared open the new two storied building complex and the treatment unit of the Panadura Base Hospital.
The new building complex and the new basic treatment unit expand residential treatment facilities of the Panadura Base Hospital.
The Western Province Health Ministry provided a grant of 150 million rupees to the project. The President planted a Na sapling in the Hospital premises to mark the occasion.
Minister Reginald Fernando and Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga were present on the occasion.
The President also participated in the prize giving ceremony of the Sumangala Balika Vidyalaya Panadura this afternoon.
Addressing the gathering, the President said the adults should consider all the children without any discrimination as capable and talented to overcome challenges and having a positive attitude on the children results in a more fruitful future generation.
He highlighted the society's need for more all-round individuals and stressed to motivate students in extracurricular activities as well as in academic works. The President noted that extracurricular activities help to build leadership qualities in the children.
He also asked the authorities of the Education Ministry to issue a certificate to all the students who obtained more than 70 marks at the Grade 5 scholarship examination.
Ministers Bandula Gunawardena, Kumara Welgama, Rohitha Abeygunawardena and the Principal Mrs. Sampathni Nepala were also present at the occasion.
