Oct 08, Colombo: The leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremasinghe says that party members were not involved in the clash that took place in Matara in Saturday.
Wickremasinghe has made this comment at an event at party headquarters, Sirikotha, to hand over appointment letters to the party members newly elected to the Central and North Western Provincial Councils.
He has alleged that a group of people removed by the party were being manipulated by the government to create divisions within the party.
Wickremasinghe has accused the government of manipulating the clash in Matara targeting the UNP.
According to the UNP Leader, the governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is facing a crisis of its own where even the Prime Minister is seen in a protest against the party leadership.
Wickremasinghe has meanwhile assured the party members that the trouble in the UNP will soon be over and has called on the party members to work for the betterment of the party.
