Oct 07, Colombo: The newly elected Chief Minister for Sri Lanka's Northern Province C.V. Vigneswaran took oath before President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning at Temple Trees.
Vigneswaran, a former Supreme Court judge, has been selected as the Chief Minister of the Northern Province following the landslide victory of the main Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance, at the elections held on September 21 for the Province.
He obtained a total of 132,255 preferential votes topping the preferential vote list in Jaffna District.
Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasiri on October 01 appointed Vigneswaran to the Chief Minister post of the Province.
The party has not made its elections on the Ministers of the Provincial Council yet and the party will hold a discussion today to assign ministers.
Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne, Ministers, Maithripala Sirisena, Douglas Devananda, Rauf Hakeem, DEW Gunasekara, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Governor of Northern Province G.A. Chandrasiri, TNA leader R. Sampanthan, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and several parliamentarians attended the function.
