Oct 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka government sources say that several deputy ministers will be appointed in the coming weeks.
The new deputy ministers are to be appointed to the ministries in which the deputy minister positions are currently vacant. The ministers have pointed out to the President that they are experiencing difficulties in running the ministries when they are abroad due to the deputy minister positions being vacant.
The MPs who gained highest number of preferential votes and the experienced MPs who have come to the parliament after serving in Provincial Councils are to be given priority, government sources say.
The government sources also said that the appointment of district ministers will be further delayed.
The government was planning to appoint a district minister to each of the 25 districts in the nine provinces of the country to oversee the development in the districts.
