Oct 06, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court has issued notice to the former Navy Commander of Sri Lanka, retired Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda to give evidence before the court over the disappearance of five Tamil youth.
Colombo High Court has ordered the former Navy Commander to testify over the disappearance of five Tamil youth from Kotahena area in 2008.
The court issued the notice when a petition filed by the parents of the five youth asking the authorities to produce the missing youth in court was taken up for hearing.
On an order from the Appeal Court, the Colombo High Court has initiated a special investigation into the disappearance of the five youth from the Bambalapitiya area in 2008.
The parents of the youth have given evidence before the court and during the examination of their evidence, the counsel for the plaintiffs has discovered that the Navy was involved in the youth's disappearance, the BBC said.
Based on the evidence, the court has ordered the former Navy Commander to appear before the court.
