Oct 05, Colombo: India's External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will visit Sri Lanka on an official tour on October 7 and 8, Government Information Department said.

Khurshid's visit, first to the island as the External Affairs Minister, comes two weeks after Sri Lanka's major Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA), was elected in a landslide to run the Northern Provincial Council.
Although Khurshid's visit to Colombo is said to be a part of his plan to visit various South Asian capitals on a priority basis, it comes at a crucial time following the Tamil party's victory and subsequent calls for power devolution.
Several other issues of interest that will likely to be discussed during Khurshid's visit will be the fishermen's issue and the participation of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Commonwealth Heads of Government meet in November in Colombo.
