Oct 04, Colombo: Two journalists have lodged a complaint Thursday at Kilinochchi Police regarding a threat to their safety experienced while they were covering election in the Northern Province two weeks ago.
Hiru TV Kilinochchi reporter Ananda Fernando and Swarnawahini Kilinochchi reporter C.S. Kodikara have taken accommodation at a room of a house in Jayanthi Road, Kilinochchi while they were covering the events of Election for Northern Provincial Council.
Subsequently after the elections the two journalists have returned to Colombo on 22nd September.
However, they were informed by the property-owner that an intrusion had taken place in search of them, in the following dawn, at about 1:55 a.m.
It was reported that a group of unidentified individuals had come to the house asking for the two journalists. Property owner, a woman, had prevented the attempt to break through the locked gates saying that she would call the police and complain for the safety of her family.
The gang has reportedly responded that owner had to bring out the journalists. However, while the woman was trying to call the Kanakapuram Army Camp, some 150m away from the place, the gang had left the place.
The two journalists have learnt from the property owner that on the following night at about 11 p.m., an unidentified gang in three motor cycles had loitered in the neighborhood.
It was not known whether the police had begun an investigation into the incident.
