Oct 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Botanical Gardens and Public Recreation has decided to establish a small scale zoo in the country's administrative capital Sri Jayewardenepura ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Colombo in November.

The zoo will be established in a three and half acre land in Battaramulla, especially for the visitors of the CHOGM to view.

However, the Ministry expects to maintain the zoo and open it for public after the CHOGM.

The government has estimated to spend around Rs. 10 million for the new zoo.

Ministry of Botanical Gardens and Public Recreation added that a model ancient village will also be established in Battaramulla in the Battaramulla Jana Kala Kendra premises as a tourist attraction.
