Oct 03, Colombo: Dayasiri Jayasekara and Sarath Ekanayake were sworn in today as Chief Ministers for North Western and Central Provinces of Sri Lanka respectively.
The two Chief Ministers were sworn in before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's Office today.
K. Sanath Nishantha Perera, Samantha Kumara Rajapakse, Gunadasa Dehigama, H.M. Dharmasiri and Bandara Herath have taken oaths as ministers of the North Western Provincial Council.
B.S. Bandara Yalegama, Ramasan Muttiah, Ediriweera Weerawardena and Pramitha Bandara Thennakoon were sworn in as ministers of the Central Provincial Council.
Former parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara, who crossed over to the ruling party in July, obtained 336,327 preferential votes contesting for Kurunegala district under the ruling UPFA.
Ekanayake, placing second behind Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne's son Anuradha Jayaratne, obtained 70,174 preferential votes contesting for the Kandy district. However, the government gave consideration to the experienced former Chief Minister due to his caliber to cope with all members in the council.
