Oct 03, Colombo: Adding to the woes of the already troubled party, the General Secretary of Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake has resigned from an electoral organizer position he was holding.
Attanayake, who was the electoral organizer of Kundasale electorate in the Kandy district of Central Province, experienced a massive defeat in his electorate at the Central Provincial Council election held on September 21.
UNP gained only 13,136 votes in the Kundasale electorate while the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance gained 31,606 votes.
However, Attanayake has pointed out that he was not in the election operations committee and the nomination committee of the UNP at this election. Both committees were headed by MP Lakshman Kiriella.
