Oct 02, Thalaimannar: Sri Lanka today repatriated 66 Indian fishermen arrested by the Navy on separate occasions following their release by the Sri Lankan courts.
The Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the repatriation of the Indian fishermen and Sri Lanka Navy Ship "Udara" attached to the Northern Naval Command handed the released fishermen over to the Indian Coast Guard Ship "Raj Tharang" at the International Maritime Boundary Line off Thalaimannar.
Two SLN Inshore Patrol Craft attached to North Central Naval Command also assisted the mission.
The Mannar Magistrate's Court on September 25ordered the release of 41 Indian fishermen but detained their boats. Magistrate of Puttalam Court ordered the release of 35 Tamil Nadu fishermen on September 23.
Under a policy adopted by Sri Lanka recently the Indian fishermen invading country's waters will be detained and produced in court. The fishermen will be released after they plead guilty and their boats will be confiscated.
