Oct 02, Colombo: Ally of Sri Lanka's governing party, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has issued a warning to the government over land issues faced by people in the Eastern Province.
SLMC group leader in the Eastern Provincial Council, A.M. Jameel has threatened that the party would withdraw its support to the governing party in the Council if the land issues in the Eastern Province are not resolved.
He has said that the Muslim community is facing problems related to lands in the Trincomalee District.
The SLMC has raised the issue of land appropriations taking place in the Pulmoddai area, which is a Muslim village, in the Eastern Province.
According to Jameel, lands belonging to Tamils and Muslims are being appropriated in the Eastern Province.
He has added that the Council has failed to effectively address the issue of land appropriation in the East.
He has called on the Eastern Provincial Council administration to take immediate and meaningful steps to solve the land problems in Pulmoddai.
