Oct 01, Colombo: An education sector trade union in Sri Lanka, Ceylon Teachers Union warned today that it will quit the examination evaluation tomorrow unless the Examination Department pays the advances to the evaluation officers of the G.C.E.(Advanced Level) examination.
The Chairman of the Ceylon Teachers' Union Joseph Stalin Fernando said that the teachers that have come from far away areas for examination evaluation have faced difficulties due to the failure of the Examination Department to pay them an advance until seven days have passed.
Usually, Rs. 5,000 advance is paid to the evaluating officers within five days of the commencement of marking.
Teachers of the evaluation center of Nalanda College, Colombo walked out today and held a demonstration protesting the negligence. The Union has given time until October 02 to pay the advance to the teachers.
