Oct 01, Colombo: Ally of Sri Lanka's governing party, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) says the government should address the unresolved humanitarian issues in the Northern Province.
General Secretary of the SLMC, parliamentarian M.T. Hassan Ali said the government needs to take prompt measures to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
He noted that the government would have to face the consequences at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions in Geneva next March if it fails to address these issues.
The SLMC this time contested separately at the recently concluded provincial council elections.
According to Hassan Ali, the international community is focused on the actions of the Sri Lankan government and measures should therefore be taken to address the unresolved issues of the Tamils and other minority communities in the country.
He added that the Tamil community has been smart when dealing with the government unlike the Muslims.
