Oct 01, Colombo: The Fisheries Department of Sri Lanka says that the issue of Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen would be discussed during Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurhsid's visit to the country.
Director General and Spokesman of the Department, Nimal Hettiarachchi told the media that the two governments would discuss the fishermen's issue.
Khurshid is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka on October 7 and 8.
Hettiarachchi noted that the issue between Sri Lankan and Indian fishermen has been a long drawn one that is difficult to resolve.
According to Hettiarachchi, the fishing trawlers that are being confiscated are being retained in line with a recent directive issued by the Attorney General.
Meanwhile, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has also said the party would take up the issue faced by Sri Lankan fishermen with the central government.
