Nov 04, Colombo: Seniors of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) will meet this morning to finalize the proposed party reforms and three proposals that have been prepared by the United Bhikku Front (UBF) at a meeting yesterday.
Party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and former deputy leaders Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa are to finalize the party reforms that are to be presented to the UNP Working Committee.
However, Head of the UBF Ven. Girambe Ananda Thero had presented three new proposals to Jayasuriya and Premadasa at a meeting in Kurunegala. The new proposals are to be taken up for discussion at today's meeting.
One of the proposals is to appoint Jayasuriya as the Chairman of the proposed Leadership Council of the party.
Second is for Jayasuriya, Premadasa and Wickremasinghe to appoint three members each, including themselves to the nine member Leadership Council.
The third proposal is that the term, 'Leader/ Adviser' in the UNP Constitution be replaced with the Leadership Council and that the Chairman of the Leadership Council should chair the Working Committee meetings.
Jayasuriya and Premadasa have already agreed to the three proposals and have signed the agreement.
The final round of discussion between Wickremasinghe, Jayasuriya and Premadasa is scheduled to take place this morning at 10 at the Opposition Leader's office in Thimbirigasyaya.
The seniors will discuss the three proposals presented by the UBF that have already been agreed to by Jayasuriya and Premadasa.
The UNP's Working Committee will meet later today at the party headquarters at 4 p.m.
