Nov 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka Army on Saturday immediately suspended from service a soldier, arrested on suspicion for involvement in a number of robberies.
The Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayake has directed the Directorate of Legal Services in the Army to convene a Court Martial without delay.
The Military Police have arrested the soldier, who is alleged to have committed a number of robberies in and around Colombo while in service.
He was arrested when he was attending a sports event at Panagoda Army Cantonment Saturday evening on information given by the Police, the Army said.
The new Army Commander has said that there is 'zero tolerance' towards any criminal or anti-social acts in the army and will take severe actions against troops violating the regulations.
