Nov 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has commenced introducing reforms within the party and among the reforms are appointing new key candidates to contest at the next provincial council and other major elections.
JVP sources said that politburo member and the head of the All Ceylon Trade Union Federation (ACTUF), K.D. Lalkantha will contest as the party's chief ministerial candidate at the next Western Provincial Council election speculated to be held in March next year.
The party has decided to field Lalkantha to contest from the Western Province since there is a large trade union base concentrated in the Western Province.
The JVP has also formulated an action plan to address the party's failure to record electoral victories despite playing a key role in rallying masses and taking to the streets to win demands.
"The party has prepared an action plan, which would be made public shortly," JVP sources said.
