Nov 01, Perth: Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid has said that a highest level of delegation of his country will participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka.
The Indian Minister who is attending the Council of Minister's Meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in Perth, Australia held talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Professor G.L Peiris on the sidelines of the meeting.
Speaking at a press conference with his Australian counterpart Julie Bishop in Perth on Thursday Khurshid said the Commonwealth summit is of extreme importance on a regional basis as well and it was important that the Commonwealth was strengthened.
Speaking about Canada's stance on boycotting the summit in Colombo, Khurshid said the Canadian government has very serious concerns based on domestic terms but the leaders need to look at the larger picture.
"I think it is important for leaders to take some things in their stride and look at the larger picture and the commitment that we all have to the Commonwealth," Khurshid was quoted as saying.
Khurshid reiterated that he would attend the summit but was not yet sure about the Indian Prime Minister's attendance.
