Nov 01, Colombo: A private bus owners association in Sri Lanka has threatened to initiate legal action against the National Transport Commission (NTC) for issuing permits for buses to operate on the newly opened Colombo-Katunayake expressway.
Head of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA), Gemunu Wijeratne has said that the NTC does not have the authority to issue route permits for buses to operate on the new expressway.
He explained that the issuing of route permits for buses operating within a province is vested with the Provincial Road and Passenger Transport Authorities although transport is under the central government.
According to Wijeratne, the Colombo-Katunayake expressway is situated in the Western Province and the route permits issued to buses operating on the Colombo-Katunayake route should be rescheduled.
He added that buses operating on the regular Colombo-Katunayake route should be given permission to operate buses on the new expressway as well.
The LPBOA says it will take legal action if the route permits are not rescheduled.
