July 05, Colombo: Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka later this week on an invitation extended by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Director General of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Lakshman Hulugalla said that discussions with the Indian official will be held during his visit on tri -lateral maritime security treaty between India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Sri Lanka, India and the Maldives have recently been working on a trilateral agreement for cooperation in carrying out surveillance, anti-piracy operations and in curbing illegal activities including maritime pollution.
Menon will call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa, reportedly to discuss the recent developments on the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and convey India's viewpoint on the changes. India has shown strong opposition to any changes to the 13th Amendment that was brought under the India-Sri Lanka accord in 1987.
The Indian official is also expected to meet Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa other top Sri Lankan officials during his visit.
