* Sri Lanka invited to host the International Conference of Asian Political Parties in 2014

July 04, Colombo: The Secretary-General of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Mr. Chung Eui-yong has extended an invitation for Sri Lanka to host the next International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

President Mahinda Rajapaksa accepted the invitation from the Secretary-General to host the high-level meeting in Sri Lanka in 2014 when he called on the President Rajapaksa Thursday morning at Temple Trees.

Mr. Eui-yong said other ICAPP members were "very enthusiastic" about the possibility of Sri Lanka hosting the next conference, which is expected to attract more than 100 different political parties from around Asia.

"Sri Lanka is very strategically located for such a meeting," Mr. Eui-yong said.

President Rajapaksa addressed a special conference of ICAPP in Shaanxi Province during his state visit to China in May of this year under the theme "Promote Green Development and Build a Beautiful Asia Together."

The ICAPP, launched in Manila Philippines in 2000, is a forum of political parties of Asia-Oceania countries, which was.

The conference inter alia aims to promote exchanges and cooperation between political parties from different countries in the area and with various ideologies in order to enhance mutual understanding and trust among Asian countries.

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka Mr. Jongmoon Choi and Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga also joined the meeting.
