* Two names proposed as major opposition candidate for Sri Lanka's Western Provincial Council

Jan 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) has proposed two names for the Chief Minister candidate of the Western Provincial Council, sources close to the party said.

Names of MP Karunasena Kodithuwakku and national organizer Daya Gamage have been proposed for the candidature, according to sources.

Kodithuwakku is former Vice Chancellor of Sri Jayewardenepura University. Daya Gamage is a well-known businessman and the national organizer of the party.

UNP sources say that the party leadership council may take a final decision on the Chief Minister candidates for Western and Southern Provincial Councils when they meet on January 06th.

UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe proposed MP Harsha de Silva's as the Chief Minister candidate for Western Provincial Council but de Silva declined the offer.
