Fri, Jan 3, 2014, 09:39 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 03, Colombo: Southern Provincial Council member of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Krishantha Pushpakumara today officially became a member of the ruling party.

Pushpakumara received his membership in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent party of ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), from the party leader President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's Office.

Pushpakumara at a media briefing in Galle on Wednesday announced his decision to resign from the UNP.

He said he had to face many injustices from the party and he is willing to continue a long term political journey with the ruling party and contest the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council election as a SLFP candidate.

The Administrative Secretary of SLFP, H.S. Ariyasena was also present at the occasion.
