* Sri Lanka President to discuss budget defeats with the chairmen of defeated local governments

Jan 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapaksa today will meet with the heads of the local governments whose budgets were defeated to discuss the issue.

The President is expected to discuss at length the reasons for the defeats in those ruling party controlled local government bodies.

The decision taken at the meeting between the local government heads and the President will be submitted to the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that is scheduled to meet afterwards, the state-run radio said.

The Committee is expected to focus on the dissolution of Southern and Western Provincial Councils and the upcoming elections and discuss at length the future programs of the party,

According to party sources the Committee would discuss selecting candidates and operational aspects of the elections.

The Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will meet in this afternoon. The committee members are expected to hold discussions about the southern and western provincial council elections
