* Sri Lanka gives priority to develop 10 sports in the next four years
Wed, Jan 1, 2014, 09:53 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that a four-year programme is underway from today to develop ten sports.

The Minister said the aim of the programme is to achieve a top level in Asian standards in these sports within these four years.

The targeted sports are athletics, netball, swimming, boxing, badminton, judo, shooting, weightlifting, rugby and wushu.

However, criticism is leveled at the Minister regarding five other sports that were in the Minister's sports development programme earlier.

Those sports are karate, soccer, kabadi, volleyball and wrestling. The Minister said these sports have been given the second priority.
