Dec 28, Colombo: A farmers' association in Sri Lanka says it will file a fundamental rights petition against the government over the farmers' pension scheme proposed by the President in the budget for 2014.
The All Ceylon Farmers' Federation will file the fundamental rights petition against increasing the minimum age to receive pension benefits up to 63 years and against not allocating funds to pay the arrears from November 2011 to pay the farmers' pensions.
The Ministry of Finance and the Director of Farmers' Pensions will be named as respondents, a spokesman of the farmers' association said.
The farmers' pension scheme has been defaulted since November 2011. Farmers were asked to contribute to this pension scheme.
