Dec 27, Colombo: Authorities in Sri Lanka have decided to conduct a census to record numbers of the poor in the country.
The Census and Statistics Department will conduct the census during the first quarter of next year.
The Department has said that the new data collected in the census would be included in the process to account the country's poverty line that needs to be revised according to the latest development in the country.
A secondary purpose of the census is to prepare a proper process to provide interest free loans and assistance to the low income families in the country. The government has decided that it is essential to gather the latest data on the low income families in order to ensure the proper distribution of assistance to the poor.
