* Sri Lanka's Elections Department gets over 100,000 new applicants to the electoral list

Dec 24, Colombo: The Elections Department of Sri Lanka has received over 100,000 new applicants to the country's electoral list.

Deputy Elections Commissioner, H.M. Mohomad told the media that there are 106,041 new applicants to be included in the electoral list.

He noted that the Department had also received 778 complaints regarding the electoral list.

According to the Deputy Elections Commissioner, investigations and appeals on the complaints have been concluded and that field investigations will be carried out on them.

Most of the complaints are on duel name registrations, inclusion of names of dead people and persons who have migrated to other countries.

The Elections Department said all investigations will be finalized this week and the electoral list will be finalized before the end of the year.
