* Sri Lanka's main opposition MP has no wish join the party's leadership council
Tue, Dec 24, 2013, 01:35 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Ratnapura District Parliamentarian Thalatha Atukorale said today she has no wish to join the party's newly established Leadership Council.

Reiterating her refusal to accept the membership of the Leadership Council, Atukorale in a communiqué said she has no confidence in the Council chaired by the former deputy leader parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya.

Atukorale along with party senior Hambantota district MP Sajith Premadasa has refused to accept the membership of the nine-member leadership council appointed by the party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.

However the MP pointed out that a supreme council instead of a leadership council should have been set up to take firm policy decisions towards the party victory.

She further said that the supreme council could have comprised party seniors Wickremasinghe, Jayasuriya and Premadasa to make the decisions and such a conscious body is more practical and applicable than the leadership council which has more members without powers.
