Dec 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka's joint council of the health sector trade unions have held a protest against the government's inaction to some of their long standing demands.
The joint council of health sector trade unions of the nurses, Professions Supplementary to Medicine (PSM) and paramedics held the protest in front of the Ministry of Health building today.
Co-convener of the Government Nursing Officers' Union (GNOA), Saman Rathnapriya has said that the unions demand solutions for inadequacies and discrepancies of salary increments, various allowances for communication, transport and overtime payment.
The demands include Rs. 10,000 allowance per month for transport, attendance and risks, increase of the minimum overtime allowance up to Rs. 200 an hour and Rs. 4,000 communication allowance for Grade 01 and Special Grade nursing officers.
